Hello, Reader! Finding your donors can be hard. Tailoring your messages to those donors can be even harder. That's why marketers suggest that you create donor "personas" -- characteristics of the people most likely to give to your organization. Here are six prompts you can use to get ChatGPT to help perform this analysis: Act as an expert marketer, using best practices from that discipline. Create three ideal personas for donors to a $2 million nonprofit in Arlington, Virginia, that works on offender aid and restoration. [Obviously, change the prompts to reflect your circumstances.] For each persona you listed, describe in detail the factual basis for your profile. Look back at your original response to see whether you had any hallucinations or need to correct something to make it more accurate. Applying the same analysis, research XYZ.org. In light of that research, modify your proposed personas in any way that would make your profiles more accurate for XYZ. Generate 20 statements that the [Profile 1] would use, in their own words, to express why it is important to donate to a $2 million nonprofit in Arlington, Virginia, that works on offender aid and restoration. Generate 5 emails that XYZ could use to persuade [Profile 1] to donate to XYZ. Is your research over? No, of course not. As AI guru Geoff Woods notes, an AI answer rarely gets you more than 60% there. But what a way to start! Please share your reactions and results. Did you learn anything from these prompts? Did you receive confirmation that you are on the right track? Did you tweak these prompts or follow them with creative efforts of your own? As always, your feedback will be the basis of future newsletters. If you think this AI journey might be useful to anybody else, please forward this newsletter to them and suggest that they subscribe using this Link. By multiplying the readers of this newsletter, you again help build our common resilience and bring new minds to bear on these issues. Let’s grow this community together! Fondly, Ted Bilich

Never be satisfied with AI's first answer. Instead, iterate. This post on Medium (which may be paywalled) provides some great examples of second prompts one can use to get a better answer from ChatGPT. Some of the best include: "Can you give a simpler solution?" "Make the response less than X sentences." "When I tried your solution above, I got this error: [INSERT ERROR]." And "More examples." These are simple tools that make the machine reflect and modify its responses. Do you have any...
Hello, Reader! My blog posts and LinkedIn feed have described a tough time for nonprofits. Nonprofit leaders are going to have to make challenging decisions in times of profound uncertainty. In that light, this article in the Harvard Business Review entitled Using AI to Make You a More Compassionate Reader resonated strongly. While the article itself does not provide actual prompts, I have crafted a few prompts you can use to test the idea for your nonprofit. You will also see that I have...
Hello, Reader! Everybody, at every level of experience, needs mentors. It's especially important for people as they become more senior. Many of us feel that we have aged out of our prior mentors. That's where AI can come in. The following prompt is based closely on an idea I found on the internet. IT IS NOT ORIGINAL TO ME (although I have modified the original prompt for clarity and additional insight), and as soon as I find out who originally posted it, I will give credit where credit is...
